Upcoming: WorldCon in London (LonCon 3)

I’ll be attending the WorldCon in London in August this year and I’m happy to announce that I’ll be on a panel, not in my capacity as a writer, but as a translator:

Understanding Translation

Saturday 19:00 – 20:00

The profile of non-Anglophone science fiction and fantasy seems to be on the rise in the Anglophone world. As a result, there’s also increasing interest in translation: the mechanics of the process, the editorial role of the translator, and so on. In this panel, translators will discuss how they would approach translating some short passages from the work of the convention’s Guests of Honour into another language, and the considerations that apply when going the other way.

I’ll be happy to meet you there!

The Emperor’s Men – Arrival

In autumn 2014, the first book of a six-part alternative-history-series will be published by Atlantis Press as an English translation from the German original. Here’s the cover blurb. The exact date of publication will be announced soon.

Shortly before the First World War, the German light cruiser Saarbrücken leaves the port of Wilhelmshaven to make its last big journey before being decommissioned. But near Portugal the old ship encounters a mysterious phenomenon, and the crew unexpectedly finds itself in the Mediterranean, 1500 years in the past, at a historical moment: It’s the year 378, the beginning of the end of the Western Roman Empire, the start of Völkerwanderung…the crew of the Saarbrücken decides that to survive they must make friends of the Romans. They had been the Kaiser’s men in the 20th century, and now, in the past, another emperor might need their services…
